Theatre
Peter has worked in the theatre as actor, director, writer and sometimes producer.
His first role was as Jim Hawkin’s in Treasure Island at the Mermaid theatre followed by two years in Laurence Oliviers’ National Theatre company at the Old Vic.
He appeared in eleven productions working with the best directors and actors of their generation. In regional theatre he has played Alan Strang in Equus, Billy Liar and Jesus in the Mystery Plays.
After his television career as a presenter he decided to return to the stage most notably in musicals such as Bill Snibson in Me and my Girl, Barnum, and Charlie Chaplin in The Little Tramp.
He won an Olivier nomination for playing Denry Machin in The Card. He has taken roles in Shakespeare, Ayckbourn but has a love of children’s theatre working many times with the playwright David Wood in shows such as The Gingerbread Man and Fantastic Mr Fox. He also, with Arts council funding, produced his own touring version of Erik the Viking.
As a producer he has concentrated on Pantomime, creating his original shows at Hackney Empire and the Broadway Theatre in South London as well as other regional venues.
He has written and directed Oxford Playhouse’s Christmas production for many years as well as usually appearing in Pantomime somewhere else.
He recently won the roles of Charlie Peace at Nottingham Playhouse and toured in Birdsong playing Jack Firebrace
